Thaipusam
Written by Amutha on January 22, 2008 – 11:22 am
It’s full moon in the month of Thai again.
The day when Goddess Parvati gave the Vel to Lord Muruga.
It’s time to celebrate Him again.
The day for everyone to fullfill their vows to Lord Muruga.
Where will you be this time around?
We understand that the authors and readers of MIndsblog belongs to different parts of the country. We love to know how Thaipusam is being celebrated in your place. It definitely will be a good idea if everyone taking part in Thaipusam celebration to send us (im@tulipspeaks.com) at least one photo of the event to MIndsblog. Credits will be given to the contributors.
Thank you and have a wonderful Thaipusam celebration!

Ponggal , Tamil New Year
Written by Mahendran Balakrishnan on January 17, 2008 – 6:10 pmMy first post in MIndsBlog. And its a copy paste from BMahendran.com :p maafkan hamba~

For the non-Indians, and the ‘coconut-Indians’ ; FAQ on Ponggal
Tamil’s Thanksgiving
What is Ponggal : Its a South Indian equivalent of the Western Thanksgiving. Or the same with East Malaysia’s Hari Gawai. It is a day to celebrate the harvesting season, which is why the Tamils in Tamil Nadu celebrate it in a big scale; as majority are still farmers and livestock breeders, involved in the agriculture industry. Ponggal is beautiful, environment friendly festive of the Dravidian-culture, as it is a day for the people to thank the mother earth for providing food, and income. It is the time to offer gratitude for the main essentials needs of living things, that is water, land, air. And not forgetting the graciousness
of the sun.
I love ponggal for the “ponngge sorre ” or nasi..er..boiled rice? Hmm
Anyway, its a great tradition which makes Malaysia richer in its culture. Try reading this Manpaanai post, very interesting on learning the elements of Ponggal festival.
