I strongly agree with many of the comments but I just wanted to share my experience with everyone.
I was an undergraduate student in a private University. I am grateful that we do not face any ragging problem and anyhow we had orientation week where our lecturers will be guiding us on the academic procedures (briefing given for course registration etc) and last few days, we too had fun by having orientation night and so on. Even though it was not a mega celebration, but yet we enjoyed ourselves and the sweet memories is still fresh in our minds. After the orientation week, we (juniors) got to know many seniors. I agree that there are seniors who will help and encourage you in your studies and some are very "happy-go-lucky" who don't bother about studies. So, the choice was mine and I am happy that I made a right choice (My father used to tell me, "Set your priority right"). I make sure I know the studious seniors and try my best to get their past notes and past year papers. I also get back to them if I don't understand the lecture to clear my doubts. There was a senior who helped me a lot and I am very much grateful to her for all her support and guidance. In between all these busy periods, I also did not miss my Uni life fun. My friends and I used to go for shopping, movies and etc when we were free. So the point is no matter what you do, make sure you are done with your studies and the rest comes later. Now, I have successfully graduated with flying colours and working in a multinational company.
If you are able to set your priority right, you would be facing any problem in getting good grades not only in varsity but wherever you go. Please bear this in your mind my dear juniors.

Thanks & Rgds

Same case here but slightly a different story to share here. I graduated from local UNI and looking back, hey I don't remember seniors helping me getting through my semesters- notes or anything. I attended all the classes, took notes, listened attentively and managed to get Dean List. Seriously, most of the friends that I have met during the orientation week were like spending time entertaining seniors just so that they will get lecture notes. I had successfully managed to avoid raggings (I picked up a fight with one of the seniors during the orientation week when she tried to rag me)- thus, the reputation was established-that there is this junior girl-snobbish, arrogant, rude and 'thinks she is Aiswarya". Fine with me-so, I spent my three years in UNI being excellent in academic and active in UNI activities-not to brag but my CV speaks for itself-I had quite a lot of offers even for my industrial training compared to the rest of the class( not just Indian students). Well, I also spent 3 years in UNI-having a lot of non-Indian friends-simply because the seniors had instructed all Indian students to boycott me, not joining any Indian activities and continuously being bad -mouthed by students from my batch and my juniors simply because I never obeyed my seniors. Though, this did not stop me from excelling in my studies, it irritates me how the Indian mentality functions-juniors following exactly what seniors say without checking out whether it is logic to avoid a person just because he or she did not go along with the ragging activities. Enough to say that I was holding some important and influential positions in my faculty and college, thus I was in a position to help a lot of Indian students. Sadly, these people have decided that they would rather be damn than to come and ask me for help. Not to forget-stares that I always get when I walk alone-this will be accompanied with whispers and gossips and laughter. It really hurts but I suppose it does not matter with what I had managed to achieve without the 'HELP OF THE SENIORS'. Sometimes, what you need when furthering your studies in UNI are determination, discipline, passion and desire for excellence. Many Indian student walk into UNI looking for seniors-BIG MISTAKE which will be costly when they leave the UNI.
