Akshaya Tritiya on 7th May 2008

Written by Vilveswaary MKesavamurthy on May 1, 2008 – 1:40 pm

The word “Akshaya” means imperishable or eternal – that which never diminishes.
Initiations made or valuables bought on this day are considered to bring success
or good fortune. Buying gold is a popular activity on Akshaya Tritiya, as it is
the ultimate symbol of wealth and prosperity. Gold and gold jewelry bought and
worn on this day signify never diminishing good fortune. Indians celebrate weddings,
begin new business ventures, and even plan long journeys on this day.

Akshaya Tritiya is a holy day and is also known as “Akha Teej”, is traditionally
the birthday of Lord Parasurama, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. People conduct
special Pujas on this day, bathe in holy rivers, give charitable donations, offer
barley in a sacred fires, and worship Lord Ganesha & Devi Lakshmi on this day.
Hindus believe in the theory of “mahurats” or auspicious timings in every step in
life – be it to begin a new venture or making an important purchase. Akshaya Tritiya
is one such momentous occasion, which is considered one of the most auspicious days
of the Vedic Calendar. It is believed, any meaningful activity started on this day
would be fruitful. Akshaya Tritiya falls on the third day of the bright half of Vaishakh month (April-May), when the Sun and Moon are in exaltation; they are simultaneously at their peak of brightness, which happens only once every year.

The day also marks the beginning of the “SatyaYug” or the Golden Age – the first
of the four Yugas. In the “Puranas”, the holy Hindu scriptures, there is a story
that says that on this day of Akshay Tritiya Vedavyas along with Lord Ganesha started
writing the great epic Mahabharata. Ganga Devi or Mother Ganges also descended to
earth on this day. It is also believed that people born during this time shine bright
in life. Many luminaries were born during this period: Basaveshwara born on May
4, Ramanujacharya and Adi Shankaracharya on May 6, Swami Chinmayananda on May 8
and Lord Buddha on May 16.

This year Akshaya Tritiya falls on Rohini Star Rishabha Raasi, it is recommended to purchase Gold which symbolises Wealth and any other ventures.

Written by Vilveswaary MKesavamurthy on March 27, 2008 – 1:17 pm

On 15th March I have attended Amazing Race Clinic conducted by the leading Adventurous training company Wilderness Malaysia. This is my first experience attending such Clinic or better known as workshop. Finding places at Putrajaya is big headache, the signboards are just meant to be there but not the places. !!!

After much rounds , reversing on the highway and burning fuels unnecessarily manage to find Putrajaya Wetlands. Im amazed enjoying the virginity of the nature, it is untouchable and amazing. Never know a jungle existed in the middle of the globe with such fascinating wonders !!

Wilderness Malaysia is organizing Adventurous Race on 3rd May, Langkawi. This is competition consist of of Kayaking, Running, Mountain Cycling, Collections of points and other mystery games to determine the winner. It is exhausting as racer need to complete 15-30KM of the whole race. The Clinic which also covers for Press Conference for various Media attracted atleast 30 racer including myself. Lafuma is the main resellers for gears, there are other items on display such as Tarp, Waterproof top, Helmet , Headlight and even survival mirror. Im fascinated to witness waterproof Matchbox !! The clinic taught us on the importance for Food & Hydration, calorie intake and water consumption. During this kinda of Adventure races forget about having nasilemak and roti canai ;) , The foods are packaged into the size of chocolate Bars such PowerBars, GelFood and heed !! The topic touch the importance of Safety as the racers need to kayak at the rough seas unlike white water.

I manage to speak to few famous racers such as leah and Suhaimi (SEA game champion for Kayak), they are as stout as the mountain and very knowledgeable. I would say Im the only Indian among everyone, perhaps the news didn’t reach our community. Im very much interested to join the race however I have never done kayaking before, on top of that there will be no guidance, you need to study the barometer, nautical knots and maps on yourself !!! If you’re unlucky the waves might pull you further from Langkawi !!

Knock Knock .. Inflation is biting us !!

Written by Vilveswaary MKesavamurthy on January 5, 2008 – 6:03 pm

Inflation is often related supply and demand and it hit us tremendously because the result is often an increase on higher prices for all the goods that we buy.Although some economist is giving different terms and views to define inflation correctly, we as Malaysian’s already feeling the pinch of it. This is even more when it comes to pensioner and daily wage earner, the phenomena is never ending. Let me give one simple example, in the year 1987 , price of Nasi lemak cost only RM0.20 cents ( Trust me) !! which is filled with egg, anchovies,Cucumber and sambals with wrapped banana leaf. But now just in 20 years the cost of the same nasi lemak with some quality degradation cost RM1.20 . May be in 20 years of now the same nasi lemak could cost RM5-6, I’m not surprised !! This had burn many malaysian’s pocket. No only that with Oil price increase , per barrel cost almost USD100 !!! Price revolution certainly needed to bring the price under control. Although some measures have been taken but it is just defeat the purpose, because the payroll never increases with acceptable percentage.
